the former to be in Holly Orders or at least Communicants in
the Church of England. All such offices as that of Sub Warden
or of Tutors are in the appointment of the Warden. Their
stipend shall be defrayed from the funds of the College or
from any endowment specially contributed for their support;
assisted by such payments for tuition as the Students may
hereafter be expected to contribute or by such annual grants
as the local British Government or any public Society may be
willing to make.
THE STUDIES.
5. The course of education shall ordinarily comprise the
usual branches of instruction in Languages Literature Science
Divinity and Sacred History to get her with the study of the
language and literature of China.
6.
SCHOLARSHIPS.
It shall be competent to individuals, the local British
Government and to any association de si rous of promoting
Christianity with the consent of the Warden to found Scholar-
ships on a benefaction of Five hundred pounds with a perpetual
right reserved to such individuals, Local Government and
Associations or their assigns of nominating duly qualified
Students approved by the Warden to such Scholarships.
Scholarships may also be founded and endowed by the
payment of an adequate benefaction for educating a Native
Student with a reserved right to the founders of nominating
the first Student to the said Scholarship subject to the
approval of the Warden both as to his nomination and
continuance in the College.
It shall also be competent to any individual the local
Government or any Religious Society to send duly qualified
Students approved by the Warden to the College upon engaging
